Internet Green Card
As a Canadian I suffer from the cultural embargo that the US has put on us and
many other countries. I’ve posted this video to show a recent way I found around it.

Eat Food
I’ve always had a pet peeve with the way PETA acts. I think most of their tactics make vegans feel smug about themselves but don’t do a great job of getting the average persons support. I don’t think the everyday person would look at an average graphic PETA stunt and feel informed and change their behavior.
Recently I’ve seen a few things that I think could have an effect.
First is The River Cottage, a freaking great show where the host brings a group of people each week to his cottage. Each visitor finds it hard to eat healthy for various reasons. During the visit the host: Hugh Fearnley listens to each guests struggles and beliefs and really tries to inform them about their food in a very personal manor.
The next is a great book: In Defense of Food. Michael Pollan gives a great unpreachy look at the current state of our relationship with food. He leaves with a deep of the food industry and makes it simple for you to get better food.
The last is Mark Bittman’s tedtalk. He does what could described as a Coles Notes version of Michael Pollan book in his speak. If you can’t get some to read In Defense of Food then get them to watch this:

I can’t wait
“I can’t wait until I can comfortably retire to call whatever I’ve made my living off, dead. It’s going to be awesome. I’ll know that I could’ve said it earlier when it would have been more difficult for me, but I made the easier decision doing it when I have enough to live very comfortably for the rest of my life. I’ll demean the work of so many
who have followed me, but I’ll retire somewhere far enough away that I can’t be reminded of that. I can’t wait; it’s going to be so awesome.”

rsizing
Go right now and play with rsizr.Seam carving is the most exciting technology for manipulating 2D images I’ve seen since Make3D and definitely has a future way beyond just how it’s being demonstrated.
The most obvious is the ability to deploy flexible media that could really simplify resizing for various online ads. The Flash applet isn’t publicly available yet but check out this simple example.
Another would be a Photoshop plug-in. Even though the technology was born out of a need for the web, it could be really handy for print. Numerous times I’ve Art Directed Photo shoots to work with all the currently bought print media and then the up pops an Ad for the world skinniest banner running once in The Middle of Nowhere Post. In these cases, the amount of time retouching doesn’t always justify its limited use. This could become a really handy tool for print production studios.
Looking further ahead seam carving could be great for Video. Nowadays there are so many new media players, all with different sized screens. Right now if people want to fill those frames the video is either stretched which cause’s distortion or they use pan and scan which can be quite jarring. Seam carving could be a strong alternative as long as all Directors don’t go on strike for messing with their precious aspect ratios.

Sending a Bullet

Ever wonder what kind of country the Neocons want America to become? Look no further than Brazil. You’ve probably got a sense of the situation for the poor from films like City of God but you have to get your hands on To Send A Bullet because of how it shows the relationship from the poor all the way up to the rich. You don’t need to know anything else just watch because anyone with an once of morality in them should find it to be one of the most frightening documentaries out there and theirs allot of them out right now.
